27 Apr National Junior Teams Event 2023
At the latest National Teams event Tennis Northern produced some amazing results finishing first in the under 17’s and second in both the under 14’s and the under 12’s. This has been achieved thanks to the hard work of both our club coaches and the coaching team at Tennis Northern where nearly all are in our Academy.
Tennis Northern 17’s
While seeded second for the tournament the TNR team had a very busy schedule due to the weather which made it difficult for the organisers and the teams. Tennis Northern adjusted well having to play both inside and outside and with shortened sets and also having long days starting at 8.00am each morning but not finishing until 9.00pm.They had comfortable wins over Waikato, Southern and Central but had hard won matches over Canterbury and eventual runners up Auckland.
Tennis Northern 14’s
The team started off strongly with comprehensive victories over Waikato Bays and Central. They then played Canterbury, which was essentially the playoff for 2nd place, and won. They then beat Southern. On the final day they lost to eventual winners Auckland
Tennis Northern 12’s
With wins over Central and then Waikato on the first day the team got off to a good start. They then beat the 2nd ranked team Canterbury. On the final 2 days they lost to eventual winners Auckland and then beat Southern to claim 2nd place which is the highest achievement for at least 10 years. 5 out of the 8 players are 10 years old turning 11 this year so they will be eligible for the team again next year.
