COVID 19 – Level 3 for Tennis

Update 14th August- 6.57pm

As you will have heard we are now in Level 3 until 26th August unless there is a change announced by the government. The key priorities are members should only play in their bubble, contact tracing and cleanliness.

There will be a meeting with TNZ and the regions next week and we will update you after this. The Love Tennis buzz night has been postponed with more information to follow. Just a reminder that team entries for senior interclub close this Sunday. We hope that the season will start on time.

Please see below for a summary of what Tennis Clubs can offer:

  • That playing tennis within your bubble is permitted.
  • Clubs choosing to open must be confident and comfortable that they can follow the health and safety measures recommended by Government.
  • The contact tracing FORM on tennis.kiwi is still current and should be used by everyone before they play.
  • A contact tracing POSTER should be on display clearly on the gate/fence/club entrance.
  • If you do not have the TNZ tracing tool then you should generate one at: https://qrform.tracing.covid19.govt.nz/.
  • There is no obligation for a club or centre to open if it is not practical to do so.
  • Unfortunately coaching will not be permitted at Level 3, unless the coach and player are already within the same bubble.

If COVID-19 re-emerges in the community, fast and effective contact tracing will be key to breaking the chain of transmission and minimising the risk or extent of any further lockdowns. NZ COVID Tracer supports this by giving contact tracers a head-start and by allowing us to send contact alerts to people who may have been exposed to the virus.

You generate one at: https://qrform.tracing.covid19.govt.nz/

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Update 28th April – 9.01am

COVID-19 Level 3 for Tennis

Hi Everyone

Please see below the guidelines from TNZ with regards play under Level 3. The most important one being around contact tracing. It is preferable that clubs get players to use the TNZ link rather than their own. Secondly play is only allowed within your bubble. And no you cannot have one bubble playing against another bubble.

Please note there is no requirement that you use alternate courts though you may choose to do so if it makes it easier to manage.

  • Clubs should only open if they feel comfortable and confident to do so.
  • The safety plan template will give clubs an idea of the measures they need to take in order to open, and may help them in making their decision.
  • Clubs will need to OPT IN to being on the contact tracing list. This helps manage things to the public clearly (eg – if you’re on the list, people could assume you’re open) Clubs should email chris@tennis.kiwi to opt in as soon as they have decided if they are going to open. Clubs that opt in will be displayed on the contact tracing drop down menu.
  • It is our preference for clubs to use the contact tracing website and signage that has been provided by Tennis NZ. This makes it easier to understand which clubs are open, and to assist government and local health board if required. This is the time for the tennis community to be aligned with consistent measures and approaches.
  • There is NO RUSH to open in time for Tuesday morning. There is preparation to do that should be taken seriously and might take some time. Perhaps aiming to open at the weekend might be a smarter decision.
  • All the resources can be found on the following website page – https://tennis.kiwi/covid-19/for-clubs/
    – Contact tracing web page link
    – Contact tracing downloadable poster
    – Safety plan template for clubs to complete
    – Safe Play player information poster to display on courts (coming soon)

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any queries.

Thank you for your patience and whereas we still don’t have the final details as to how tennis will proceed under the latest guidelines from Sport NZ we can confirm:

  • That playing tennis within your bubble is permitted.
  • Clubs choosing to open must be confident and comfortable that they can follow the health and safety measures recommended by Government.
  • Tennis NZ will have a ‘toolkit’ ready for clubs to use from Tuesday and this will include:
  • A contact tracing FORM on tennis.kiwi for everyone to complete before they play.
  • A contact tracing POSTER that you can print and display clearly on the gate/fence/club entrance
  • Updated Community Tennis Guidelines for Continued Play which will include clear health and safety guidelines from the Government, relevant for tennis.
  • There is no obligation for a club or centre to open if it is not practical to do so.
  • Unfortunately coaching will not be permitted at Level 3, unless the coach and player are already within the same bubble.
